Through the rigors of a higher dedication, Craftsmen labored strenuously over the heat of a forge creating things to expedite the dreams of courageous men. Helping them grasp their goals, and protect their freedoms, yet, unfortunately, the limelight only goes to those craftsmen that chose to walk the path of weaponry. Necessary as they are yes, but we lose sight of those who deserve an equal admiration. Those that poured their life and soul into the creation of armor, and tools of protection.

How has armor fallen out of the limelight? When was it decided that the tool used to destroy was the far superior side of the coin? One could say that with the creation of firepower armor became obsolete, but then we still created Kevlar and other forms of bulletproof gears. Also, we still see those that purchase swords, knives, axes and other “old world” or forged weapons. So why not armors as well? Armor was a source of pride for owners, often displaying a family coat of arms, or an insignia of their lord, boasting beautiful designs and brilliant decorum.

Action must be taken in actively bringing armor back into the limelight that it deserves, properly respecting the intricate design and engineering of great tools of defense. No collection complete, or fighter fulfilled without a proper set of gear. How else will the warrior survive in battle? Sword alone cannot stop every strike, nor can it preserve one’s vitals from possible death. However, coupled with a good helm, and a sound breastplate, a warrior can become as strong and useful as many.

Even the collectors of today have trained their eye onto weaponry, forsaking armor. Unfortunately this leaves their collections lacking, for no collection can shine fully without a full set. Collecting weapons only can be said to be akin to buying a car without the engine, or a horse with no legs. The collector is missing out on the full picture, only taking care to notice the more media-fueled portions of the craft they pay homage to.

I would encourage all of those immersed in the art of war, or the collection of its artifacts, to broaden their horizons. Be proud of your own armor, as it houses your spirit just as a sword or axe would. Bring the entire art of war back into its full glory, whether it be old or new, breastplate or bulletproof, don’t lose sight of what keeps us alive.
