As you begin to develop in your wing chun training you will start to develop your own style of fighting. Wing Chun allows many variations and flexibility as part of its concepts. The main area to focus on is to concentrate on your strength and lessen your weaknesses.Conversely you want to prevent your opponents strengths and exploit their weaknesess. During the dynamics of a fight ..Even in real life or ina tournament do not get drawn into playing the other guys game -or style if fighting. You want to be able to dictate how the contest is fought and won. Not be controlled by your opponents rules. You won’t learn this just by practicing onthe wing chun dummy
For example if your opponent is bigger and has a longer reach, they will generally be slower moving and want to keep you at a distance to be at their most effective.By keeping you out of range they can inflict the most damage yet remain unscathed. If you are more swift and proficient close range fighting ( ala wing chun) you want to keep things dynamic and get in close to nullify your opponents reach and cramp them up.You dont want to get into a fight dependant on strenght is your opponent is stronger than you. This is a weakness of yours and a strength of your opponents and falling into this trap you are heading down a path of defeat. This is a key concept of Wing Chun Training
Knowing the your game or strength allows you to develop your own style to focus on your strengths. This whole strategy involves when you are in an exchanging in an altercation with your opponent or even when you are out of range and perhaps being provoked .
Don’t be suckered on or provoked by verbal stoushes when you’re out with friends. That may be his way of getting your to approach him & be isolated ..he may look to sucker punch and even have fiends jump you..–he is looking to fight playing his game playing by his rules
Know your territory and pay attention to your surrounding and always focus on maximizing your strengths.
