The groin area in men is extremely sensitive. Any physical contact there results in severe pain and means that they are unable to respond for at least a few seconds. It is standard practice for someone use their knee to strike someone's groin if they are threatened by someone bigger than them. We see this enactment shown in movies and on television as a very effective method of being able to escape from the bad guys. If attacked from behind, you will need to act quickly. Raise your knee up to about the height of your waist and then kick toward the groin area with as much force as possible. Remember, anywhere in the groin area will inflict maximum pain. Try not to worry too much about accuracy. Any portion of the inner and upper leg, thigh, and crotch area will cause the same amount of shock and harm that will buy you enough time to make flee the scene. The face, much like the hands, has lots of small and fragile muscles that are very painful when harmed. This is especially effective when dealing with a female assailant. Not all attacks and muggings are perpetrated by men. As women do not have a groin muscle, your first thought when faced with an aggressive woman will be to aim for the face. The most effective self defense technique you could use on the face is to scratch. Take your nails and begin at forehead and dig in to their skin as much as you can. Once dug in, drag your nails all the way down to their nose. Then, to the same with your other hand. Another part of the face to potentially attack is just below the chin. When the opportunity arises, take your thumb and apply pressure just below the chin and at the top of the throat. This will make it difficult for them to breath and, whilst they cannot breath properly, they will have to loosen their hold on you.

The foot is often overlooked as a useful method of defending yourself, but it's actually your best 'weapon'. The foot has several solid parts that allow it to be used during self defense without fear of causing any damage to it. Whereas punching, particularly to solid parts of an attacker's body, can cause serious harm and even breakage. The heel is the best part of your foot to use against an attacker. The heel is basically just solid bone and this makes it very difficult to damage. Kicking with your toes or other part of the foot is not advisable as there are several small bones that comprise those portions of your foot, and a poor kick could result in you breaking or fracturing them. The chances are that you'll be attacked from behind, with the upper portion of your body being grabbed or held tightly. If and when you are assaulted from behind, bring your knee up high and then release it with as much power as possible in the direction of the attacker; get as much of your heel to connect with their body as you can. This process will likely cause severe physical pain, giving you an opportunity to flee and seek help. Some of our most fragile bones are in our hands. It is unlikely that during an assault that you will not have an opportunity to grab someone's hand or fingers. Causing severe pain to someone's finger gives you a unique advantage in that the pain receptors immediately rush to their head, causing them to temporarily disabled. Just grab hold one of their fingers and put as much effort as you can muster into bending it backwards. Not only are you likely to break the particular finger you are bending, but you will have allowed yourself enough time to escape.
