The Riddle of Power!
Ya wanna be strong! Ya wanna be able to hit some fool so hard he doesn’t wake up till next week! Ya wanna have muscles bigger than a blimp made of brick!
Sounds like you’re enthralled by the riddle of power. To understand what power really is we’re going to have to break out a bit of a dictionary. But it’s a truth, when you define a couple of very important words you will know what power really is, and how to make it.
To have power over something is to have control over it. To be able to destroy something is not power over it, except of the most limited kind. So, instead of power, let’s consider energy.
Energy is the amount work you can do, it is your capacity for work. Energy being work, that makes power just domination. Having the feeling of energy in your body may actually be what you are really seeking.
Work is how much weight you can move. Move a lot of weight and you use a lot of energy and you get tired. Hmmm.
Okay, how about if you do the kind of work that you can store. Weightlifting increases the amount of weight you can lift, which is the amount of energy you can output, and increases the density and bulk of your muscles. Double hmmm.
Okay, that’s all fine and good, but if you want to narrow in on how to store energy exactly for the martial arts, how about if you do body weight exercises such as forms and various drills? Muscles get faster, denser, and everything is looking good. But, here’s the real trick, the more the more energy you feel in your body, the more of these exercises you do, and the more power you will have.
Wowzer dowzer, I think we’re on to it, to work out so that you don’t become fatigued, but rather gain and hold excessive amounts of energy. This is the meaning you must realize if you are going to have oodles of energy and make the martial arts really work. That’s the True Source of Power, you know, working to make it work by working!
