This weekends UFC features two legends in MMA. Randy “The Natural” Couture faces off against Antonio “Minotauro” Noguiera in what is a rebound match for each fighter. Each fighter has recently fought in a title bout and lost, but this will be the chance they both need to start working their way into position for a shot at the current champ, Brock Lesnar.

Many UFC critics say that Randy Couture is over-billed and doesn’t warrant the ranking placement that he so easily seems to garnish in the UFC. In his most recent fights he was knocked out in two of the four fights and wasn’t required to fight his way back up the rankings when he lost his title. He simply walked right into a title bout with then champ Tim Sylvia after he retired following being knocked out by Liddell.

Noguiera has recently fought top headliners like Frank Mir, Tim Sylvia, Josh Barnett and Heath Herring, winning three of four of those fights. At 32 he is probably the most experienced fight for his age. In his latest fight Antonio faced a game Frank Mir and lost by knock out in the second round. If you look at the records the easy favorite is Noguiera.

Noguiera has a record that a champion would be proud of with 31 wins, 5 defeats and 1 draw. He has also beat one of the toughest UFC fighters each time he has fought him, Heath Herring.

If you compared each fighter’s style, the bout would favor Noguiera. Having a black belt in BJJ and a great dirty boxing repertoire as well puts Antonio into a different realm than Couture. Noguiera is known for being a slow starter but Couture isn’t heavy handed enough for that to make much of a difference.

Antonio has a world class chin and an amazing skill to come back after being nearly knocked out, he will give Couture all he can handle and then some.

Neither fighter really has the knock out power of a Liddell so you can plan on this fight going into the second or third rounds. This will give Minotauro an advantage because of this ability to deal with Couture’s significant ground game.

Though Couture has been underestimated in many of his bouts and still come out the victor, this match up that outcome doesn’t seem likely.
